Modules - Bridge making in Room 4

In Room 4 we had some really complicated things like building towers out of straws. (Eden)

We had to make a bridge out of newspaper. (Callum)

We had to make triangles because it is the strongest shape! (Rachel)

The bridge had to have a tractor go over it. (Gabrielle)

We had to make it so the tractor wouldn't sink in the middle. (Tuawhio)

In our group some people were building triangles, some people were rolling up paper and then folding the paper and putting it on the side and cello taping it so the tractor wouldn't fall off. It was complicated. (Tayla)

I learnt that when the triangles are smaller, the stronger the bridge is. (Alec)

My group had to build a tower and balance a ball on it so it couldn't fall off. (Emma)

When we were making the tower Mrs Papworth said we could join up as a group. Tayla's group joined up to our group and we built a tower and balanced a ball, and it worked. And we were the first one finished. (Ruben)

I found out that there is always a way to build an object. (Joshua)

Thank you Mrs Papworth for teaching us how to build structures.

Winter at Koputaroa!

WOW!! What a treat! Snow at Koputaroa School. The children have had fun all day - no need for any sports gear today...

Modules week 3 - Cooking

"We are cooking with Mrs Swanson. We made jam and cake and rice bubble cake and chocolate crackles," said Alec, Eli and Tayla.

"We mixed the icing sugar and the cocoa together and then we put hot water in", remarked Ruben.

Ashley said "We spreaded icing on top of the cake and then we sprinkled sprinkles on top."

"Mrs Robinson cut the finished cake in half, then cut the 2 halves in half, then cut those into 3," said Emma.

Making the jam...

"We had to mush up the strawberries. We add this natural stuff and sugar," said Callum.

Tayla said that the natural stuff is jam setting mix.

"Mrs Swanson poured the jam into the jars," said Chiara.

"After Mrs Swanson had poured the strawberry jam into the glass containers, they were really hot," commented Haylee.

Room 3 Modules - Printmaking.

This was our first week with Modules and Room 3 children experienced print making with our trusty 'Yellow Express'.

The photos tell the story and show the activities. The results are amazing! What a bunch of clever kids!! (hehe).

The children cut out their templates and NAMED them. The first print was white, this is our background or base. After a day the children then cut out the centre square from the original template and printed this red as our frame.

Finally the children printed their koru shape black. WOW! Good work guys.

"I enjoyed rolling the ink," said Callum

"I liked spreading the ink on my koru," said Alec

"I enjoyed turning the press down," remarked Ruben

"We all enjoyed seeing our pictures in the end," commented Eden

"I enjoyed cutting out the koru, I had to remember to turn the paper to get a straight edge as I cut," noted Ashton

"Well done for such good listening and enthusiasm!" Cried Mrs Robinson
