Rocky Shore

We had a brilliant day! The weather behaved and we had many parents to engage in the activities with the children.


I didn't know sea anemones could be so small - Ashton.
I didn't know that sea anemones were slimy - Jess.
I didn't know that the hungriest fish was the size of a pie - Tuawhio.
I didn't know that crayfish could get so big! - Callum.


I didn't know that sea anemones are black - Sarah.
I didn't know that sea cucumbers could spew out their guts - Sam.
I didn't know that sharks can eat 500 fish each day - Eden.
I didn't know that sea cucumbers breathe out of their bottom - Maria.


I learnt that sea spiders can grow their legs back - Alec.
I didn't know that neptune's necklace is edible - Joshua.
I really enjoyed searching for the crabs in the pools - Kieran.
I enjoyed feeding the turtles and the big fish - Rachel.
I learnt that a starfish has an eye on the end of its leg - Emma.


Sarah and Zoe were the only ones who put meat in their mouth and fed the turtles - Tayla.
It was awesome holding the spider star - Ruben.
I didn't know that sea anemones will suck your finger on the yellow bit - Chiara.
I enjoyed holding the starfish - Katelyn.
I didn't know that the starfish had a mouth under their body - Gabrielle.


I didn't know that starfish could grow up to 40 legs - Eli.
I enjoyed picking up the crabs - Campbell.
I didn't know that starfish were so bumpy - Stephen.
I didn't know that when mother octopus have their babies, she works so hard to look after them that she then dies - Ashley.


I enjoyed looking at the octopus - Navah.
I have never touched a sea star before - Ellemay.
I have never touched a sea anemone - Callum.
I enjoyed searching in the rock pools - Sarah.
I have never picked up a hermit crab - Maria.
Fish can stay still and look dead and frozen - but they aren't - Tayla and Alec.


Looking in rock pools and lifting up rocks to find creatures is fun - Jess.
There is a shark called the carpet shark - Eden.
When you hold a crab you need to make a nest with your hands - Ruben and Katelyn.
A hermit crab can move extremely fast inside its shell - Tuawhio.
When you pick up sea creatures you need to wet your hands with sea water - Callum.


When you pick something up, replace it back where it came from - Ashton.
When you hold a sea star, they suck to your hand - Emma.
A spider star's legs can wrap around your hand - Tayla.


When something is growing - DON'T pull it out - Jess.
The sea anemone wants to kill you when you touch it, with its stingers - Ruben
You will find a glass shrimp in the rock pools if you look carefully - Chiara and Rachel.


It was gross when I ate the neptune's necklace - Tuawhio.
You can only eat the top part of the neptune's necklace - Callum.
Be careful to not run because there are sharp rocks and you will step on creatures - Alec.


There are orange sea anemones - Jess.
Glass shrimps move very fast! - Tayla.
The octopus can move through really small spaces - Sam.


Octopus and sharks and some other fish have cartlidge in it - Eden.
The rock pools can be visited at low tide only - Joshua.
No rock pools are the same - Callum.


Octopus can lay over 40,000 eggs - Eden.
Don't run, just walk - Rachel.
Spider stars can drop off their legs to keep them safe, and they still live - Stephen.


A starfish has it's mouth at the bottom of its body - Emma.
When the mother octopus dies, the babies eat their mother - Katelyn.
I never knew that rocky shore was so important to the environment - Eden.


The tide can come in very big - Ashley.
It was hard to catch the glass shrimp with your net - Eli.
You can catch fish in the rock pools with a net - Sam.
When the tide comes in, the animals in the rock pools open up to catch food - Katelyn.
Sea cucumbers try to slide across your hand - Emma.
Starfish walk on the tips of their legs - Tayla.

Agricultural Day!

Well here we are...agricultural day!

We have had a busy day, the children have had a wonderful time eating lollies, creating bouquets and face pikelets and Mr. Potato head.

The rain has stayed away and it is now shining down on the best school around.
Take a peek at our achievements...


Bouquets and Sand saucers.
We had to make a pattern - Ashton.
We needed a saucer - Dominic
We used a small amount of flowers - Emma
We needed a big flower in the middle - Alec

We chose from 5 colours - Sarah
We had to make sure that the bits fit - Chiara



We had to be careful putting the pieces of tile on - Callum
It was exciting making them at first - Navah
It was complicated - Rachel


And prints...

It was a very hard process because we had to put a certain amount of ink on to make it look good - Eden
We had to cut out pieces of paper to make the print - Gabrielle

Mosaic stones


Leah and Tessa drew the leaf outline on our stone - Alec


Then Sereah put the adhesive onto the stone for us to put the tiles on.
